ORTING FAMILY PHOTOS

There is nothing that I enjoy more than "that time of year again".  The time of the year when you wake up to crisp air, sun shining, and red and orange colors all around you.  I am such a sucker for fall.  It's the time of year when most families get their photographs in place for Christmas cards and they all run around looking for great deals because we all know Christmas is around the corner and it's getting more expensive every year.  I recently made sure I had my family photographed to update that yearly photo and this time we've expanded to a family of four.

Family photography is such a passion of mine and it's so important to make the time for it.
This is the adorable Womback family and their cute little guy.  Make sure to book a photo session and enjoy a family photography shoot of your own. Katie Tyree Photography has specials running for mini sessions up to 5 people for October 20th.  Email Katie Tyree Photography to get the scoop

TACOMA GLASS MUSEUM WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

I believe we sometimes come unprepared for the worst especially when it comes to weather.  My 11/11/11 wedding this year with an amazing couple was almost a disaster, but the smart bride was ready for the worst and made sure to bring umbrellas.  All of the umbrellas were rented from a very popular company in Seattle, WA called Bella Umbrella and they have the most amazing umbrellas.  My bride wanted simple and went for their classic clear which was helpful to let lots of light in on such a truly drap colored day in Washington.  It's often so gray here even in the spring time and sometimes summer that the color from their other umbrellas on a light or over cast day makes a photograph pop so much!

NEWBORN PHOTOS + HOW MUCH TIME YOU NEED

Recently I had the joy of photographing a few newborns.  It is one of my favorite categories in photography.  The joy of a new life that has been waiting for over nine months to join us and what a blessing it is when they arrive and we get to hold them.  In all of this busy-ness I recently realized that I had the same question in two emails about a newborn session.
QUESTION?:   Is there any way we can get this newborn shoot done in an hour? Both future customers asking if what they read was true about needing more than just an hour to do this kind of photo session.
ANSWER?:  Yes!  You do need to set aside more than an hour for a newborn session.  It would be amazing to get finished in just one hour, but that would be one very happy little client with a lot of patience.  The reason why you need more than an hour and how long should we set aside for a your newborn to get photographed?  You need to set aside a good three, yes three, hours to have your beautiful bundle photographed.  It takes a very special environment to keep your baby happy while undressed and it takes just the right amount of soothing and nurturing.  If you rush your baby you will have bad results.  They will not be able to completely calm down and be put into the positions you always see and love.  I wish it was that simple, but mommas and papas...  have some patience and expect to spend a minimum of two hours and more than likely around three hours.

I'll touch up in my next blog about some things you should bring for your baby or wear in order to get the results you are craving from your newborn shoot.

ORTING BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY

Being a photographer and a mom is so exciting because I get to share my experience WITH YOU!  After being 8 days over due my water broke.  It was not something every woman gets to experience, but it is definately an exciting one.  At 4:30am in our home in Orting, WA I woke up and realized i had leaked a bit and thought well... it must be from the baby kicking my bladder.  Little did I know my water had broke.  Again and again it continued to happen.  We went to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, WA and my doctor met us there.  She confirmed it was my water that broke and they immediately started me on Petocin which induces labor.  My labor unfortunately didn't start on its own.  After 24 hours of labor and my little bundle of joy being very stubborn they took me in for a C section.  Our beautiful little girl, Charlotte Lee, was born on July 14th @ 4:05AM at a whopping 9 pounds 5 ounces and 21 1/4 inches long @ Good Sam Hospital in Puyallup, WA. Well I would explain what she looked like, but i'd much rather show you! Here's our Precious Charlotte Lee.

MAKING MEMORIES + FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY

Today I look back and think about my mom and all she did in my life and what an impact she was.  She was the most beautiful woman from inside to out.  She had a gentle heart and would give anything to take care of the people she loved.  Mom was artistic and such a creative thinker; I give credit to her for my creative eye and love for art.  One thing that I regret and wish I had more time to get were photographs.  Being a photographer it just kills me that I don't have a beautiful photograph of her.  Mom was always hesistant when a camera came out.  She didn't like the way she looked and never felt good about herself physically.

Sometimes it's good to remember that photographs aren't just for you and your wall, they're for others.  They're for looking at and remembering about each other in that moment and bringing forward the emotions you were having in that time.

BACK UP BRIDAL LIST + WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

This week I was getting ready for a photographers meeting in Seattle and my blowdryer started making horrible sounds and smelling very unappealing and it hit me.  How am I going to get ready when things break last minute?
What if a bride is using a flat iron and it breaks before she heads to her photo shoot or if a blowdryer breaks and you've got an important meeting.  What if it's something you need so small as a bobby pin or a piece of double stick tape for a bridesmaid dress? It's so important to come prepared!  Ladies... I suggest either making a package for yourself or appointing a bridesmaid/wedding planner/mom or anyone who you can deligate this tast to on your day.  It's one less thign to worry about.  Double are important and a good list of things you may happy to need incase it rains, incase it's time to reapply makeup, maybe your mascara runs.  A million simple things to be avoided.  Bring a list of all the items you may need for your special day or that meeting or just an engagement session you may have.

List:
Mascara

Comb/Brush
Hair Dryer
Curling Iron
Eye Liner
Eye Shadow
Bobby Pins (There's always a curl that falls out or those 3 hairs that drive you crazy)
Double Stick Tape(Girls busts change often so it's important to have it on hand)
Bandaids (You never know when a heal will rub you wrong)
UMBRELLA - not only may it rain, but if it doesn't it's still a really fun way to take photos and a great way to all color to photos.
10 to 20 $(You never know when you might need a little cash and something comes up)
Water
Tide Pen
Hand Towel
Kleenex
Pen/Paper

All good things to bring, you never know what you might need!
