ORTING CHIROPRACTIC GUEST BLOGGING+WEIGHT LOSS

We are visiting week 2 of our weight loss blog post!
I as many of you struggle with weight loss and we have Orting Chiropractic and Wellness Center to share some great information and teach us how important it is to focus on a healthy life style, not just quick weight loss gimmicks.

Weight Loss Blog Part II

Continuing on the topic of weight loss, let's shift the focus to how and when to eat. Eating when hungry, striving for three meals a day or eating until full may sound like common sense. It is what most of us have heard for a lifetime. However, as it relates to weight loss, this advice often has unfavorable results. Waiting until hunger pains set in can lead to eating the wrong foods by grabbing whatever is convenient, as well as, possible overeating if waiting too long. Eating three meals per day can have similar negative effects, as it allows the possibility of hunger to set in. Enjoying a meal until the feeling of fullness generally gives way to overeating, and oftentimes digestive complaints. As it takes 20 minutes for the brain to receive the signal of fullness from the stomach, it isn't hard to realize that there is the possibility of getting a little too much extra in those minutes.

So, how then should we eat? Staving off hunger and keeping your metabolism operating at its maximum capacity we want to keep the "furnace" stoked by eating five to six smaller meals per day. By eating every two to three hours, blood sugar remains level and metabolism doesn't slow down. Which also means there is less likelihood of energy highs followed by afternoon crashes and that calories are being burned at a steadier rate. This, too, assists in regulating hormones associated with weight loss. Now, instead of eating until full, the best course of action is to eat until just no longer hungry. If you have managed to not reach the point of hunger, then eat slowly and mindfully, listening to your body's cues. Remember to take notice of, and really enjoy, what you are eating.

We mentioned in Part I to concentrate on positive images and thoughts while switching to a better relationship with food, that ultimately leads to weight loss. Just as important as these positive visualizations are, remember the negative thoughts are just as powerful. Anytime you feel worry or frustration, etc., acknowledge it and immediately replace it with a positive message. Be amazed at the difference and how quickly the negative thoughts disappear for good! Also, find a practice or activity that is calming. It could be meditation, yoga or jogging. Something that clears the mind and relaxes the body. Thus, keep weight loss hormones high and stress hormones (or fat storing hormones) low.

GUEST BLOGGER + WEIGHT LOSS

Weight Loss is something we all struggle with.  It's something that over 50 % of Americans alone struggle with. That's not just a couple thousand... That has to be millions!  So many of the women that I photograph or ones I don't photograph and just "know"... many of which are very close friends of mine STRUGGLE.  I honestly would say that about 90 % of the women that I photograph on a daily basis struggle with their body image and wanting to take photos with their spouse, children, boudoir, and even just a casual by themselves photo.  I want to take the opportunity because we're so self "aware" (might I say that?) to offer some facts and information from an amazing source.  Orting Chiropractic and Wellness Center of Orting, WA is up on the blog today as our guest blogger to help you learn a bit about why we struggle so much and how to help us get through the day a bit healthier and hopefully in return we can have better self image and over all health.  I hope this helps all of my brides and moms who want to feel better about themselves for their next shoot or their big day.

Where do I begin on the topic of weight loss? There are so many facets, dimensions, terms and subjective thoughts and opinions on the issue of weight. Just walk into any bookstore or google "diet books", 249,000,000 results appear in less than half a second. The majority of which the author is certain that his or her method is the best one. But what works for one may not work for another.

Let's start by looking at the type of weight. There is weight from fat, lean muscle weight and water weight or edema. When discussing weight loss, generally we are talking about losing fat. Most people wouldn't want to shed pounds at the risk of losing lean muscle. But as many of you already know, muscle weighs more than fat. So we need to shift our focus away from the number. Nothing can be more frustrating than starting a "diet" and not see the number go down. Concentrate instead on the fit of clothing. It usually takes at least five to ten pounds to notice a difference. Being part of the "I Want it Now" generation, we want to know that the changes we are making are helping us achieve our goal and impatience can be detrimental. Focus instead on how you are feeling during this time. Maybe you are experiencing less headaches (sugar is an inflammatory substance), so maybe with less refined sugars you notice less aches and pains. Perhaps you suddenly realize that you no longer struggle through the 3 o'clock slump. Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated keeps you alert and awake. Health should be the optimal goal. Why health? Why do you want it? Be specific with your goal.

The two main things I would like to touch on briefly are having a positive mental mindset and choosing your calories carefully. What I mean by positive mindset is just that. Visualize the shape you would like your body to be and put your face on that body! Make that picture bigger. What would you feel like at your ideal vision? Think like? Sleep like? Energy be like? Also, stay away from words that tend to have a negative connotation such as: diet, restriction, low or less calories, limit, etc. Concentrate on enjoying a healthy eating plan with nutritious choices. Which leads to the second point. One of the biggest myths out there is that a calorie is a calorie is a calorie. FALSE All calories are not created equal. If you decide that a 1,500 calorie eating plan is right for you, eating 1,500 calories of processed food deplete of nutrients is going to be a lot worse than eating 1,500 calories of fruits and veggies, lean meats and whole grains. For example, a 500 calorie fast food burger is not going to "feed" your body like 500 calories of halibut and steamed asparagus. Plus when nutrients are left out, your body still thinks it is being starved (holds onto fat) because it isn't receiving anything of value.

......Next time we will discuss the importance of how and when we should be eating

JUST SMASHING + TEAMING UP

{Katie Tyree Photography + Mystical Cupcakes}

I often sit in my dining room day dreaming while my two girls are napping...  Day dreaming about the thousands of ideas and desires I have.  Sometimes those dreams become reality and sometimes they just sit on my note pad or in my head and become nothing but meer thoughts that float off into nothingness.  Why they become something or nothing?  Sometimes I know why and sometimes I haven't the foggiest of clues why they do not develop at all.  I think it's fate that they become nothing or else I'm assured God would develop them into something or i'd have that burning desire to see things through at least.

Speaking of day dreaming...
I was sitting there a few months ago when I got a desire to do something special and different with my business.  I already customize every photo session that I do, but often times they aren't ones that are done in the studio with the exception of babies, newborn photos and senior photos.  Anyways, I thought, how much fun would it be to offer customized 1st and 2nd birthday smash photos and smash cake sessions for the same exact price as my regular sessions except with the cake smashing you'd get to have a custom high end boutique style cake that was designed just for your child.  I mean... Who knows how badly their children fall apart at their first birthday just in time for the eating of the cake which results in not so great first birthday cake photos right?

I've thought long and hard on it for a few months and although I considered making the cakes myself or looking for some simple way to do these cakes I have decided to do something above and beyond.  I've teamed up with an awesome baker named Rachel who owns Mystical Cupcakes in Olympia and will be making all of the cake smash cakes custom for every single session.  Rachel is a mom and a mom with a passion for baking and her business {Mystical Cupcakes}.  She puts so much heart into her food and you can tell when you bite into a piece of cupcake or smash cake.  Trust me, you'll be ordering every birthday party and special event cupcake or smash cake from her because they're that amazing.  She makes butter cream icing with home made from scratch butter that she whips.  You know your cupcakes and smash cake is amazing when you can SEE the vanilla beans in the frosting and in the cake batter.  It's almost too good of a cake for a baby to appreciate. So after you finish your cake smash photos with me you'll have to take a fork and try her amazing cake for yourself.

Here are a few images of the cupcakes that are created by Mystical Cupcakes of Olympia.  They are as tasty as they look.

{THEIR STORY} The Penwell's

{THEIR STORY}

Jennifer had been spending her time working, being with her beautiful son and enjoying time with her family...  Her mother thought she needed to find herself a wonderful man to fill up her life.  As Jennifer and Colby had been each others fill of smiles and happiness for umpteen years, she found herself in the dating pool.  I'm not sure about you, but I'm not a huge fan of dating.  And until Sean came along I don't think Jennifer was too much either.  It is a lot of work! And who has that much time when they have a young man to raise up?  Well after meeting, dating and Sean popping the question... Jennifer and Sean began the rest of their lives together.  From the sounds and looks of things, they are a match made in heaven.

Sean and Jennifer were married about a year when they prayed and decided they might try to expand and connect their two families.  Jennifer has a handsome young gentleman and Sean, himself, has two adorable sons as well.  After not too long at all (to Jennifer's surprise and i'm sure excitement!) they conceived.  Jennifer and Sean are now expecting their baby GIRL any day.  Three boys and they are going to be adding a girl.  I would say this baby girl is going to be one protected and loved little sister and daughter. They will be naming their little angel, Grace, as I pray she will enter this world {gracefully}.

I met Jennifer at MOPS and had the pleasure of sitting next to each other on her first day there.  She was at least thirty weeks pregnant and glowing.  As we got to chatting I found out that she loves Scrabble.  I though well lets do a maternity and family session combined as this isn't just Sean and Jennifer expanding, but their three boys would be coming together joined not just by their parents marriage, but by this beautiful baby girl {Grace} whom was to arrive any week.

Jennifer and I began to chat about our love for scrabble and about using it as a theme for her maternity photos and family photos that I would be taking for them.  I put together a theme for GRACE.  From burlap I create a banner for baby Grace and from my vintage 1960's scrabble board that i'd inherited from my mother I put together baby Graces own scrabble board and holder filled with her name and Jennifer and Sean's wedding rings to signify their joining of family not just by their marriage and faith, but by this beautiful being that would be joining their family soon.

I hope you enjoy and get inspiration from their photo shoot.  Located in Orting, WA near Puyallup, Wa and on the Carbon
River.

Cake Smashing + First Birthday Photography

About six months ago I was asked to photograph a child's first birthday party and get those wonderful Cake Smash photos and First Birthday Photos.  I was a bit reluctant only because I have been through a first birthday party with my child and she was less than happy or cheerful when it came time for cake.  We learned that one the hard way.  Tears and exhaustion on her face while in her high chair in the middle of August with the whole family and friends to witness the catastrophe. So after my own experience I decided that the next time we had a child turning one we would definitely do our own Cake Smash Photos in the studio without exhaustion and tears.  So I offered up the idea to my long time customer who wanted first birthday photos and she loved the idea.  I had done quite a few already, but never had done them quite as stylized as hers.  I absolutely love designing the color pallet and decor for the sessions.
Since then I've been doing Cake Smash Photos in the studio and parents just love it up along with the children smashing the cake.  The images on this post are of little Miss Jo who is turning one this week and is quite the dainty little thing when it comes to eating... Or so she lets you think!  Most children react with "you mean i get to eat this cake and smash it all over my face and make a mess?"  Best day ever!
All of the cakes that are featured at Cake Smash Photo Sessions are all made from scratch by the amazing Mystical Cupcakes owned by Rachel Young in Olympia Washington.  Rachel makes every smash cake and cupcake from scratch all the way down to the butter cream frosting made from home made butter(yes i said HOME MADE BUTTER) and vanilla beans.  Rachel doesn't skimp on the quality of any cake, even one fit for a queen and used for a toddlers party.
